Director of Religious Education, Evangelization and Music - St. Catherine of Siena, Duncansville

St. Catherine of Siena Parish under the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has an opening for a part-time 30-32 per week Director of Religious Education, Evangelization, and Music. This position will provide assistance with the following:

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the parish religious education program for families with children in grades K-12, including students who are home-schooled.
  • Organizing and providing a religious education program that is safe for children.
  • Implementing formation of all parish second-grade students for the sacraments of penance and first Communion.
  • Implementing a formation program for students in ninth grade and above in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
  • Developing a plan for Evangelization efforts within Duncansville and the surrounding communities.
  • Coordinate adult faith formation in a variety of formats to meet each person (parishioners 18 and over) on their faith journey.
  • Enlisting teachers and volunteers to participate in the programs including Diocesan sponsored events
  • Responsible for overseeing all dimensions of liturgical music for the three weekend Masses as well as holy days and other special events.
  • Participating in the parish’s religious education planning process including acting as an ex officio member of the Education Committee of the Pastoral Council
  • Maintaining venues of communication such as the parish website and social media sites
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications

     Required:

  • Actively practicing the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of practical knowledge from an accredited college or university with study in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Studies or equivalent
  • Able to satisfactorily complete background checks and training applicable to diocesan requirements
  • Working toward basic Ecclesial Ministries certification through the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese
  • Working knowledge of musical equipment and singing with a choir
  • The ability to read and arrange music
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
  • Knowledge of using social media tools in communication efforts

  • Ability to effectively work with children and youth; staff members and volunteers; and parents

Minimum Qualifications:   

 

Education: 

A Master’s degree or equivalent experience in not-for-profit management, business administration, philanthropy or related field is preferred. 

Experience: 

Proven philanthropy track record securing donor six- and seven-figure gifts. Experience with a campaign, or background with research and prospect identification, cultivation, and stewardship strategies.  

Evidence of outstanding organizational leadership skills. At least seven to ten years of senior level/top management role professional experience in positions of increasing and significant responsibility within the Church, its ministries, or other service-oriented institutions, preferably involving fundraising. 

Knowledge/Skills: 

Must conduct themselves in a manner which is consistent with and supportive of the mission and purpose of the Catholic Church. Must have a deep appreciation for and understanding of the Catholic faith and a passion for supporting the ministry of the Church through donor-driven philanthropy. Strong knowledge of the Catholic Church’s structure and mission is preferred. 

Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communications skills, including the ability to interact effectively with current and prospective donors and professional advisors. 

An entrepreneurial mindset with the desire to grow and scale a “start-up” Foundation. 

Demonstrated effective and capable team leadership, with organizational abilities and project management skills are essential. Evidence of self-directed success working independently, and in a team and governance collaboration manner; making independent decisions and discerning when such independence is warranted. 

Proven problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and attention to details to ensure team and board implementation of the strategy. Highly organized to drive and support a fast-paced working environment, able to set and balance the implementation of multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and fulfill strategic outcomes for desired impact. 

Evidence of and ability to lead others effectively and act in accordance with the code of ethics promulgated by the International Catholic Stewardship Council and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

  • Collaborate with the CFGP Board of Directors, Pastors, Administrators and the pastoral staff of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.  
  • Plan, design, implement, coordinate and manage a comprehensive development program consistent with foundation bylaws and diocesan objectives to secure the financial support necessary to carry out the ministry of the Catholic Foundation. 
  • Coordinate all foundation development activities and projects with other appropriate diocesan agencies such as, but not limited to, Stewardship and Development, the Annual Parish Appeal, Catholic schools, and parishes. 
  • Conduct research to identify the goals, net worth, giving history, or other data related to potential donors, potential investors, or general donor markets. 
  • Develop, solicit and implement long term philanthropic opportunities, such as planned giving or endowment programs for purposes that conform to the Foundation’s Mission Statement. 
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward relationships with potential donors. 
  • Direct or supervise the Board of Directors, office and/or fundraising staff, and potential volunteers. 
  • Request gifts of cash, pledges, planned gifts, and in-kind donations or sponsorships from all perspective donors. 
  • Develop and maintain a database of all donations/donors and maintain confidentiality of donor information. 
  • Implement a donor stewardship plan with regular and personalized reporting. 
  • Monitor budgets, expense reports, or other financial data as it relates to the Catholic Foundation. 
  • Work closely with the Director of Stewardship and Development to organize and synchronize the development efforts of both offices. 
  • Manage and coordinate quarterly board meetings. 
  • Promote and market the Catholic Foundation within the community and expand awareness. 
  • Identify and maintain effective working relationships with related professionals such as attorneys, accountants, estate planners, trust officers, financial advisors, bankers, etc. 
  • Travel throughout the six-counties of the Diocese of Pittsburgh to meet with donors, parishes, pastors, school leadership, and ministry executives to form active, trusting relationships that engender confidence and trust in the Catholic Foundation and its philanthropic independence.
